(67) Philippine Coalition on UN CRPD on Government Spending for Persons with Disabilities

crpd_thumbnail19 September 2014 - Last 18 September 2014, the AIM Zuellig School hosted a forum entitled “How much is the Government Spending on Persons with Disabilities?” Three guest speakers – Abner N. Manlapaz, Benjamin S. Bernandino, M.D. and Dr. Liza B. Martinez

 from the Philippine Coalition on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) were invited to shed light on government spending for persons with disabilities.

(66) Department of Finance's Joselito Almario on Providing Financial Services to the Poor

Almario, Director at the Department of Finance and Deputy Executive Director of the National Credit Council (NCC), was the guest speaker at the Development-at-Work Forum held last 23 July 2014 at AIM, Makati City. He shared the story of  how the government and the private sector are working together to provide  financial services, particularly credit, savings and insurance to the poor.

(65) University of Warsaw's Professor Alojzy Nowak on the Fiscal Problems of the Eurozone

25 July 2014 - Professor Alojzy Nowak, Vice Rector of Warsaw University, was guest speaker in the Development-at-Work Forum held last 22 July 2014 at the Asian Institute of Management. He discussed the fiscal problems of the Eurozone, its political and historical context, and offered possible scenarios for overcoming the present crisis.

(64) ADB's Hyun Son on Inclusive Growth in Asia

Son, Principal Evaluation Specialist at the Independent Evaluation Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), was the guest speaker at the Development-at-Work Forum held last 17 July 2014 at the Asian Institute of Management, Makati City. Her presentation was based on Chapter 2 of the report entitled “ADB’s Support for Inclusive Growth.”

(63) Flowminder's Dr. Erik Wetter on Big Data for Development

Big_data_thumbnail18 July 2014 - Professor Erik Wetter, Assistant Professor at Stockholm School of Economics and co-founder of Flowminder, a non-profit applied research group based in Sweden, was our guest speaker in the Development-at-Work Forum held last 14 July 2014. He presented Flowminder’s pilot project that pioneered the use of anonymized cellphone data to map and predict population movement after the 7.3 magnitude earthquake in Haiti in 2010.

(61) PNP’s Dr. Sabino-Diangson on Protecting Women and Children against Violence
antiviolenc_thumbnail14 April 2014 - Police Superintendent Ruby Grace Sabino-Diangson was the guest speaker in the Development-at-Work Forum held last 10 April 2014 at the Asian Institute of Management. She discussed the salient features of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004, and the problems and gaps in its implementation.

(60) World Bank's Xubei Lao on Managing Risks

10 April 2014 - Last 08 April 2014, the AIM Stephen Zuellig Graduate School of Development Management (AIM-ZDM) hosted the Philippine launch of the 2014 World Development Report. Ms. Xubei Lao, a senior economist at the World Bank office in Washington was in the Philippines to present the main features of the report, focusing on risk management, and policy recommendations to manage risk at the individual, community, state and international level.

14 March 2014 - Rev. Fr. Anton Pascual, member of the MDM Class of 1997 and one of the recipients of the 2014 AIM Alumni Achievement Awards, was the guest speaker at the Development-at-Work Forum held last 11 March 2014 at AIM, Makati City. He shared the various strategies he employed in turning around the organizations that were entrusted to him by the Catholic Church.

(58) Save the Children's Dr. Shyam Pathak on empowering adolescents during crises situations

07 March 2014 - Dr. Shyam Pathak of the international organization Save the Children was the guest speaker at the Development-at-Work Forum held last 5 March at the Asian Institute of Management, Makati City. He talked about an overlooked issue in emergency response - the need to address sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents.
