PH Bureau of Fire Protection co-create national strategic plan with AIM

24 November 2015 - AIM-ZSDM conducted a planning workshop customized for the Philippine Bureau of Fire Protection from November 9 - 11, 2015. Entitled "Building Strategic Capacity Through SOAR: Strategic Planning Workshop for the Bureau of Fire Protection", the workshop is focused on crafting a workable strategic plan for the BFP, by understanding and applying the five phases of SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations and Results). AIM Professors Mila Lagrosa and Maurino Bolante facilitated all sessions.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Senen Sarmiento, DILG Undersecretary for Public Safety Atty. Peter Corvera, and BFP Chief Ariel Barayuga graced the workshop's opening. Chief Barayuga recognized the BFP's accomplishments so far, as well as noted the areas which needed improvement. DILG Secretary Sarmiento discussed the priority programs thrust for 2016-2021, as well as outcome expectations for the workshop. Undersecretary Atty. Corvera covered the details of the workshop's expectations and objectives.
Themed "Change of Perpectives", the first day introduced the participants to co-creating their learning environment by identifying strengths and opportunities. The participants were separated into smaller groups for focused group discussions.

The second day focused on "Aspirations, Results and Strategy-Formation". The participants were exposed to Vision-Mission-Core Values under Aspiraton, the O-KRA-PI process, and strategy formulation results matrix. As a whole group facilitated by Prof. Bolante, they formulated their proposed vision for the BFP.

The last day saw the "Strategy Evaluation, Execution and Leadership". The participants presented and critiqued their formulated strategies. Prof. Lagrosa hosted conversations on fundamental leadership, with emphasis on the importance of results, values, teamwork and community. The day ended with a closing ceremony, recognizing the 40 national and regional representatives of the BFP who completed the strategy planning workshop.
