Regina "Gina" Lopez, MDM 1993 alumna, has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the new Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources. The post was officially turned over to her last July 1, 2016. According to DENR, Lopez' main thrusts are institutional reform and environmental governance, community empowerment, rational minerals management, stronger biodiversity protection, proper ecological solid waste management, and efficient interagency collaboration.
Prior to the post, Lopez was the Managing Director of the ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc., and eventually the Director of its Board of Trustees.
Fredelita Guiza, MDM 1991 graduate, has been appointed as the new Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization last October 14, 2015. Prior to this appointment, she held the Undersecretary position of the same office.
Aside from being an AIM graduate, Guiza also served as one of AIM-ZSDM's faculty for courses such as the Strategic Legislative Management Course for Philippine Vice Governors (for which she was Program Director) and the Introduction to Pre-Feasibility Studies: Translating Urban Development Strategies into Bankable Projects. Rev. Fr. Eduardo Celiz Jr. of MDM 2007 has been appointed by the Prior Provincial of the OAR Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno as the 16th President of the University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos (UNO-R). This will be effective on June 25, 2015.
Prior to this position, Fr. Celiz served as the UNO-R's Basic Education Director and High School Principal. Under the same organization, he was also "assigned to chair the administration panel in the UNO-R Labor –Management Conference and was also a member of the Admin panel in the UNO-R – UNOFELA Collective Bargaining Agreement." Ms. Nushrat Sharmin of MDM 2014 from Bangladesh has been appointed the World Bank HQ's new Capacity Building Specialist. She will be flying to Washington DC on May 29 to assume her new position.

Rev. Valentin Cabbigat Dimoc has been appointed as the fifth Vicar Apostolic of the vicariate of Bontoc-Lagawe, covering Ifugao and Mt. Province, filling a position that has been empty since 2013. This appointment makes him the 133rd member of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
Prior to holding this position, he was the Rector of Good Shepherd Mission in Hapid, Lamut, Ifugao and then served as the Director of the Center for Social Action and Development and the Rector of the Mission Station of Ayangan. (Updated: 15 May 2015)
Last April 13, 2015, Er. Narayan Prasad Nihure was selected as Senior Divisional Engineer-Highway (SDE), Gazetted Second Class Officer - Undersecretary Level of the Government of Nepal's Ministry of Physical Infrastracture and Transport, Department of Roads. The selection was conducted through a competitive exam of the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Nepal.

Mae Ohn Nyunt Wai, member of the MDM Class of 2004, is currently running as a candidate for the Rangoon Divisional Municipal Committee, representing Rangoon's West District constituency. This committee, which is the highest body of government in the Yangon City Development Committee, runs the everyday affairs in Rangoon, Burma. The elections will be held on December 27.
Prior to this, Mae Ohn Nyunt Wai was the Assistant Director for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she has worked for 23 years.
MDM 2010 Radha Paudel receives the prestigious Madan Puraskar Literary Award 2014
Radha Paudel, member of the MDM Class of 2010 and Founder and President of Action Works Nepal, received the 2014 Madan Puraskar Literary Award for her book Khalanga ma Hamala (Attack in Khalanga).
Khalanga ma Hamala is a war memoir written by Radha Paudel who was a nurse assigned in Jumla district when it was attacked by Maoist insurgents in 2002. The war memoir was published last year by Nepa~laya publication. Madan Puraskar, considered the most prestigious literature award in Nepal, is conferred annually for an outstanding book in the Nepali language published within the calendar year. Paudel is the third woman to receive this prestigious literary award.

MDM 1999 Lieutenant General Delgado is the new Philippine Air Force Chief
Lieutenant General Jeffrey Delgado, member of the MDM Class of 1999, is the new Commanding General of the Philippine Air Force. Delgado replaced Lieutenant General Lauro Catalino dela Cruz who retired from service.
Delgado is a seasoned combat pilot; qualified to fly T-28D and MG520 combat aircraft as well as T-41D and SF-260 trainer aircraft. Before becoming the 33rd Chief of the 17,500-strong Air Force, Delgado was the deputy chief of staff for Plans at Camp Aguinaldo. He has also served as the senior military assistant of President Benigno Aquino III for two years since 2010, and was member of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) of former President Corazon Aquino.
In the change of command ceremony held at the Fernando Air Base on 25 April 2014, the new Air Force Chief promised to build an organization that would "ensure high levels of operational readiness to meet any contingency."

MDM Alumnus Alexandre Sarmento is the Deputy Director General of Timor Leste's National Development Agency
Alexandre Rosa Bruno Sarmento, an MDM alumnus, is the Deputy Director General of Agéncia de Desenvolvimento Nacional (ADN) or the National Development Agency of Timor Leste. It is a service under the Prime Minister that integrates the direct administration of the State. Under Decree Law 2011, the ADN is responsible for “designing, coordinating, executing and evaluating the policy set and approved by the Council of Ministers in what concerns the evaluation, management, monitoring and verification of capital development projects.”

MDM 2011 Prabhas Ukil awarded for his "exceptional contribution as a PPP Trainer"
Prabhas Ukil, member of MDM Class 2014 and graduated with distinction, was awarded by the Government of India, Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs for his "Exceptional Contribution as a PPP Trainer" under the National PPP Capacity Building Programme. He joined five other awardees who were selected from all over India.
The awarding ceremony held last March 4, 2014 was hosted by Arvind Mayaram, Secretary of India's Department of Economic Affairs, and awards was given by Sharmila Chavaly, Joint Secretary (Infrastructure) of the Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs.
MDM 2010 Edgar Pato is now the Director for Socio-Cultural Cooperation at the ASEAN Secretariat
Edgar Pato, member of MDM Class of 2010, has recently been named Director for Socio-Cultural Cooperation at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia. In this post, he manages and oversees three divisions: Culture and Information Division, the Education, Youth and Training Division, and the Social Welfare, Women, Labour and Migrant Workers Division. He reports directly to the Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).

MDM 2011 Aleem Siddiqui Guiapal designated Director of the Bureau of Muslim Economic Affairs of the Philippine National Commission on Muslim Filipinos
Aleem Siddiqui M. Guiapal, MDM Class of 2011, was appointed by Philippine President Benigno Aquino III as Director IV of the Bureau of Muslim Economic Affairs (BMEA) of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF). In 2010, Mr. Guiapal was cited as one of the 500 Most Influential Muslims (for Economic Development) by the RISSC, and in 2008 was awarded as one of the Ten Outstanding Muslim Youth (TOMY). He founded and is CEO of iInvestforum, a strategic avenue for social entrepreneurship.
Recently, Mr. Guiapal was cited at the HRD Asia Awards for the Contribution to Society category. The award was conferred by Y.A. Bhg. Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of the Pime Minister of Malaysia. He was credited for mapping various networking strategies that have brought investors to ARMM and various parts of the Philippines; he also facilitated linkaging among Moro professionals to obtain scholarships in Islamic Finance at the Utara Malaysia.

MDM 1999 P/SSupt Cesar Hawthorne Binag to head UN Police in Liberia
Police Senior Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne R. Binag, member of MDM Class of 1999 and senior officer of the Philippine National Police (PNP), was appointed Deputy Police Commissioner in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). He will assist in the peacekeeping and humanitarian mission in that country and will join other members of the PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines who are deployed as peacekeepers in accordance with the UN Resolution 1509 that established the UNMIL. As Deputy Commissioner of UN Police in Liberia, P/SSupt Binag is expected to perform official functions and to lead various programs on capability building, institutional development and human resource management; and, will be generally responsible for the operational and managerial oversight of the UN Police component’s activities related to the Mission mandate implementation.
P/SSupt Binag is a veteran UN peacekeeper having served in the Philippine Contingent to the United Nations Transitory Administration in Cambodia (UNTAC) from 1993 to 1994 which earned him a UN Peace Medal. He is only the second PNP officer given the recognition of performing a management level post in any UN Police assignment, the first being retired Police Director Rodolfo Tor who served as UN Police Commissioner in East Timor (UNMIT) in 2007 to 2009.
MDM 2012 Tomasito Villarin is the new Undersecretary for Political Affairs of the Philippine Government
Prior to his appointment to the government, Villarin was convenor of the Reform the ARMM Now, and executive director on leave of the SIAD (Sustainable Integrated Area Development) Initiatives for Mindanao-Convergence for Asset Reform and Regional Development. He holds a master’s degree in Development Management at the Asian Institute of Management, and in Governance and Development at the University of Sussex, United Kingdom. He took up law at San Beda College after graduating from the University of Sto. Tomas with an Economics degree. Villarin was Akbayan’s third nominee in the 2010 party-list elections. MDM 2010 Hafiz Uzair Kamal awarded for his contribution to the Flood Emergency Response in Pakistan
Hafiz Uzair Kamal, MDM Class of 2010, has recently joined the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) based in Manila. He is now the organization's Development Support Manager. In 2011, Kamal was awarded by Care International-Pakistan for his outstanding contribution to the country's Flood Emergency Response Program. He joined Care International-Pakistan in 2011 after the country experienced its worst flooding in 80 years in August of that year. Mr. Uzair Kamal is also the founder and Executive Director of Helping in Emergencies and Long Term Development Program (HELP) Pakistan whose mission is to help people in emergency situations and promote sustainable and long-term development worldwide. MDM 2010 Radha Paudel named one of the N-Peace Awardees for 2012
Radha Paudel, MDM Class of 2010, along with eight other Asians, is this year’s recipient of the N-Peace Awards. As founder and president of Action Works Nepal (AWON), Paudel leads her organization in promoting human rights and in giving poor, conflict-affected and rural people a voice in local and national affairs. She has been working in the development sector for 17 years, and has become a key figure in Nepal’s peace building work. The N-Peace Awards is given to individuals who has remarkable contributions to building peace in conflict-affected countries in Asia. (Updated: 11 September 2012)
MDM 1999 Rangasamy Amalorpavanathan is Chief GM of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development in Kerala, India
Rangasamy Amalorpavanathan, MDM Class of 1999, is now the Chief General Manager of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in Kerala, India. NABARD is a development bank with the mandate of facilitating credit flow for promotion and development of agriculture and integrated rural development; the institution looks after the development of the cottage industry, small and village industries, and other rural industries. Before being named one of the 44 CGMs of NABARD, Mr. Amalorpavanathan was the Principal of the National Bank Staff Training College in Lucknow in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He is a Chartered Engineer of the Institution of Engineers in India and Chartered Associate in Banking from the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance. (Updated: 26 April 2012)

MDM 2010 Benjamin Reyes named Deputy Executive Director of the Philippine Dangerous Drugs Board
On 27 January 2012, Philippine President Benigno Aquino III signed the appointment papers of Benjamin Reyes, MDM Class of 2010, installing him as Deputy Executive Director for Operations of the Dangerous Drugs Board, a position which carries the rank of an Assistant Secretary. Mr. Reyes had previously served as Program Manager for the Dangerous Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment Program under the Special Concerns and Technical Cluster of the Department of Health (DOH). In the past year, he complied with Career Executive Service Board requirements, and is currently preparing for the Third Phase of CESO evaluation. (Updated: 08 March 2012)

MDM 2010 Min Zaw is head of the Social Development Initiative in Myanmar
Min Zaw, MDM Class of 2010, founded and currently leads the Social Development Initiative (SDI) in Myanmar. The SDI conducts capacity development programs for civil society organization and community-based organizations. It also implements gender equality and women empowerment programs, and child protection and non-formal education programs for orphaned and disabled children. As SDI’s chairman, Min Zaw plans to continue implementing social and sustainable development programs in line with Myanmar government’s economic development programs. (Updated: 11 February 2012)
MDM 2000 Tuty Suardi is head of The Just Life Ministry in East Indonesia
Georry Nefiantuty Suardi, known as Tuty, is Country Director of The Just Life Ministy in East Indonesia. Tuty, who joined the MDM Class in 2000, was the ministry's Program Manager in its Bandung office. In 2005, she joined the ministry in East Indonesia as country director, leading the organization in implementing its Child Sponsorship Program, and a year later its Child Survival Program. MDM 2002 Brigadier General Ramona Go is Philippine's first woman general
On 04 April 2011, Ramona Palabrica Go, MDM Class of 2002, was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General becoming the first female general in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Prior to being promoted, she served as AFP Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for personnel based in Camp Aguinaldo. In her career with the AFP, Brig. Gen. Go was fearless in taking on the responsibilities of male regular officers. She led a military tribunal, trying officers accused of infractions. She took on combat assignments, serving as commander of the Aviation Battalion under the Light Armor Division, tactical officer of Army units, and platoon leader of the Women Auxiliary Corps in Camp Aguinaldo. Brig. Gen. Go took her oath before President Benigno Aquino III in April 2011. (Updated: 17 August 2011)
MDM 2002 Major General Anthony Alcantara is third-highest ranking official in the AFP
Major General Antonio J. Alcantara, MDM Class of 2002 and graduate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Matapat” Class of 1979, was named by President Benigno Aquino III as the 66th Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), making him the third highest-ranking military official in the Philippines. Maj. Gen. Alcantara was Chief of the 6th Infantry Division, responsible for military stability operations in Central Mindanao, before he was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff. MDM 2010 Miftahul Islam Barbaruah designated Senior Consultant to India's Ministry of Agriculture
Dr. Miftahul Islam Barbaruah, MDM Class of 2010, was recently selected as one of the 25 Senior Consultants to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of India, to monitor one of its biggest Agricultural Development Assistance Programs, the Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana (RKVY). He is currently the Chief Development Strategist of the Fellowship for Agri Research Management and Entrepreneur Research (FARMER), a non-government organization with the goal of affecting change in the Northeastern Region of India through sustainable agricultural and entrepreneurial projects that will bridge the socio-economic gap.
